Jeya Gell
Dear friends,
Greetings. I am delighted to meet you all through this newsletter and share many works we have done so far.
Smile Project
Can I make you smile?' is the motto of the Smile project, distributing soft toys to children who are sick or needy.
The last three programs were done On July 3rd, 50 children Dimna Special School at Thalamuthu nagar,On July 5th, 27 children Thulir special school at Kayalpattinam,On July 23rd, 50 children Holy cross special school at Tuticorin.
The smiles on the children's faces were priceless, a testament to the success of the Smile Project. Now, they have a buddy to talk to when they want to. Mrs. Kiruba Samuel and Mrs. Anandi Asir participated in the program, distributing the toys to the children. The children participated in a cultural show, exhibiting their talents and sharing their joy. This year, we have distributed toys to 127 children. Thank you to all who sponsored the teddies.
Tuition Centre
World Environment Day was celebrated on 26th July in our Tuition centres. As this day approached, children took an active role in various research and activities on how to protect our environment, making us all proud of their involvement.
Each child took part in their unique way, with some engaging in group projects on rainwater harvesting and wastewater management. This not only encouraged them to consider their individual impact on the environment but also underscored the significance of preserving our environment for the future.
Parents played a crucial role in these programs and their participation was integral to the success of the initiatives. They could see their children's active involvement and this made them feel valued and integral to our community.
TATA Pro-Engage- online English classes
Online English classes were started on 22nd August with eight volunteers on board to teach English to children from grade 5 to grade 9. Mobile Library
'Today a reader, tomorrow a leader'
Our ‘Super Reading Challenge-4’ started on 13th August.
Children picked books from the mobile library and are participating in this challenge to read. The more they read, the more they have a chance to win a prize.
Our second-hand book collection is expanding, now boasting a substantial assortment of Tamil fiction and nonfiction. In the upcoming months, we aim to enrich our collection with English books, further enhancing the reading experience for our children.
Positive Parenting Program (PPP)
Every month, one PPP is held in any of the centres with a focus on current relevant topics.
This month's topic was 'Importance of starting and completing formal education'.
The parents were encouraged to never let their kids drop out of school. In addition to providing education, the school also provides a haven for social interaction, a growth mindset, and teacher guidance. Though there are pitfalls all along the way, instilling a love of learning in the children will go a long way in making them strong citizens of tomorrow.
The PPP program was held at Kurinji Nagar on 21st August.
Child Protection policies were also discussed in the PPP program, refreshing the basic guidelines and ways to protect our children.

We discussed the challenges and successes of the children, and the centres were, We also celebrated the success of the online English classes, which have shown significant improvement in the children's midterm exams. This not only validates the effectiveness of the program but also motivates the children to continue their learning journey.
If we can source additional funding for the project, we would like to extend these online classes as a digital literacy program to other centres and rural areas.

He excels in his studies. His parents are labourers, making it hard for them to make ends meet. Now, Surya prakash and his mom have started a Briyani business. He buys the ingredients, his mom cooks, and he goes after school to sell the Briyani packs for dinner. He says he has started to make some income out of it.
