After-School Tuition —
Educating the Next Generation
The first step to breaking the cycle of poverty is through education. Children are our future, and it is essential that they have the best opportunity to further their education and build a career that will help them overcome the obstacles that they have been born into. DAIA offers after-school tuition centres that provide healthy snacks, social interaction, learning tools and, most importantly, a safe space where children can spend their time, free of their home stressors. We have a team of dedicated teachers who aid children in completing homework, taking them on small excursions, and providing extracurricular activities to help them succeed. There are six centres around Tuticorin with 160 students regularly attending who receive academic support and career guidance that sets them up for success.

Career Guidance – Guidance for Students
The avenues of different careers are explored, and guidance is provided to motivate and empower students to create careers for themselves. This career program has seen many students take on more study to further their careers. Many students have completed their studies with the help of our guidance session, and some have received offers to study university courses — an avenue that students weren’t aware of before this program.

Summer Computer Classes — Upskilling Digital Literacy
This two-week program covers the fundamentals of MS Office and basic computer literacy and helps students develop the digital skills they need to extend their education. Fourteen students participated in the last intake, and there is a high demand for the program to be rerun.

Awareness Programs — Disease Prevention and Management
We know that unhealthy prejudices and stigmas can be eradicated with the proper guidance, and that's what we aim to give these students. Events often focus on the hows and whys of disease transmission and work to educate young people about disease prevention and management. This program aims to stop the spread of diseases, foster a healthier community, and provide awareness to young people to prevent these diseases.
