Jeya Gell
Greetings.
We are delighted to meet you all through this newsletter and share many works we have done so far.
Embracing Elders meeting and Medical camp
This month’s meeting for the elderly was held on October 8th, 2025, with a special focus on promoting health and well-being. A medical camp was organised because many elderly participants were experiencing various illnesses. Dr. Mummoorthy examined the elders and provided them with appropriate medicines. In total, 55 elders and community members benefited from the camp, receiving valuable care and guidance to improve their health.
After the medical session, Mrs. Eben Jeson shared uplifting words of encouragement, reminding everyone that “our faces should always be as bright as the light, for when we shine, we inspire others.” The program concluded with the distribution of groceries and lunch for the month. The elders expressed their gratitude and returned home happily and refreshed, carrying with them encouragement from the day’s gathering.
Waste to Wonder – A step towards a greener future
This month, tailoring students and tuition centre children took on an inspiring challenge to transform everyday waste into useful, eco-friendly items. With great enthusiasm and creativity, they showcased remarkable skills while raising awareness about environmental protection.
At the DAIA tailoring centre in Kulasekaranallur village, women learning tailoring turned fabric scraps into beautiful, handmade hairbands, adding both charm and sustainability to their craft.
Meanwhile, at the tuition centres in Nachiyarpuram and Vellapatti, students displayed their artistic talents by creating decorative items, pen stands, and houses using old newspapers and cardboard boxes. Their teachers, Mrs. Sobana and Mrs. Helen Sathya, motivated and guided the children throughout this eco-friendly initiative.
Through these efforts, both women and children have proven that creativity and care for the environment can go hand in hand, turning waste into worthwhile products, inspiring others to do the same.
Waste water management awareness
Our tuition centre students visited the DAIA Office's herbal garden to learn about waste water management and sustainable water use. They explored how household wastewater can be reused in simple and eco-friendly ways, such as using kitchen water to nourish garden plants and create green spaces around homes.
The session also demonstrated how to build a rainwater harvesting well and a drainage system to collect and store rainwater. This hands-on experience encouraged students to adopt small but meaningful practices to promote water conservation and environmental sustainability in their daily lives.
Vocational Training and Employment (VOTE) Project
Tailoring centre
The third batch of tailoring training is currently underway in Kulasekaranallur village, with 19 enthusiastic women participating.
We celebrate the inspiring journey of Mrs. Kanaga, Mrs. Kanmani, and Mrs. Deivakani, who completed their tailoring training at the DAIA tailoring centre in Kulasekaranallur. After earning their certificates, each of them was provided with a power sewing machine through the TAHDCO (Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing & Development Corporation) government project. Equipped with their new skills and tools, these women are now empowered to start their own tailoring businesses, contributing to their families’ income and serving as role models for other women in the community. Their success stands as a shining example of how skill development can transform lives and create sustainable livelihoods.
Awareness meeting on infectious diseases
On October 23rd, an awareness meeting on infectious diseases was held in Kulasekaranallur village. The session emphasised the importance of maintaining cleanliness during the rainy season, preventing water stagnation, and avoiding areas where mosquitoes breed. Participants were advised to boil drinking water and to seek medical attention at the primary health center if they develop a fever. The meeting highlighted that by keeping our surroundings clean, we can effectively protect ourselves and our communities from the spread of infectious diseases.

PALAM Project
Self-help group meeting
On October 3rd, the Pannai Self-help group in Osanoothu village held an interactive meeting with local women to discuss the importance of savings and create awareness about various government schemes that support women's empowerment and financial development. The session encouraged participants to develop saving habits and make use of available schemes for their personal and community development
Tuition centre
Positive parenting program
On October 10th, a Positive parenting program was held at Azhagumuthu nagar tuition center, with 15 parents participating. During the event, parents shared their pride in their children’s progress, noting that the quarterly exam scores reflected their children's progress and efforts. The program encouraged parents to continue supporting their children’s learning journey with positivity and guidance.
In addition, to enhance the welfare and learning conditions of the children, an emergency light and a writing board were provided to the center.
Mobile library project
Through the Mobile library project, books were provided to the children attending our tuition centers to promote reading and learning beyond the classroom. During the parent’s meeting at the Azhagumuthu Nagar tuition center, Muthulakshmi, a mother shared that her child often tells her the stories she reads from the library books, and that listening to them fills her with happiness. This heartwarming feedback highlights how reading is inspiring children and helping families connect through shared stories.
TATA Pro-Engage classes
This month, the TATA online program was successfully conducted at our tuition centers in Kurinji Nagar, Azhagumuthu Nagar, and Saveriyarpuram. The sessions have helped children make remarkable progress, particularly in English and Mathematics.
“My daughter used to feel scared whenever he saw an English book. However, after joining the tuition centre, she has gained confidence and now achieves top marks in his class.”
Diviya.
Her testimony reflects the program's positive impact on both academic performance and students' self-confidence.
Tuition teachers meet
On October 30th, the monthly meeting of tuition teachers was held at the DAIA office. During the session, Mrs. Chithra shared encouraging words to motivate the teachers. Mrs. Hilda John, the director, reviewed the children’s educational progress over the past month and discussed challenges affecting the smooth running of the TATA Online classes.
The meeting also highlighted the children’s creativity. Mrs. Helen, Mrs. Shobana, and the students showcased decorative items, pen stands, and miniature houses made from waste paper and cards. The director praised both the children and the teachers for their dedication and efforts. The session concluded with the teachers submitting their monthly reports.
Medical camp
On October 24th, a medical camp was organised in the Kovilpatti area for people affected by HIV/ AIDS. The camp provided an important opportunity for the local community to receive medical care and guidance.
During the session, Mrs. Prema shared encouraging words, reminding participants to take proper care of their health and maintain stable CD4 levels. She also emphasised the importance of staying hydrated, especially during the rainy season.
Dr. Mummoorthy examined the patients and provided the necessary medicines. The program concluded with lunch, leaving participants feeling supported, cared for, and encouraged.
