Newsletter — November 2024

Jeya Gell
Dear friends,
Greetings. I am delighted to meet you all through this newsletter and share many works we have done so far.
Fundraisers
We have been busy with a couple of fundraising activities in October.
Rotary Club Friday market
We had the opportunity to hold a stall at the Rotary Club's 'Friday market' on October 18th. We raised Rs.13400/-. Many patrons and participants in the market were introduced to the work of DAIA. Tamil Nadu Social Welfare Minister Mrs. Geetha Jeevan visited the stall and chatted with staff about the work. Aloe vera juice, nutrition powder, and medicinal plants were on display at the stall.
Moore Park Baptist church fundraiser
Moore Park Baptist Church, Brisbane, Australia, stood behind to support DAIA on the polling day of the state elections (October 26th). DAIA volunteers sold chicken curry and rice to the public. We were able to raise some awareness about DAIA's work. It was a great joy and pleasure to see the church members helping in all ways they could to make this event a success. Our heartfelt thanks to the Moore Park Baptist church congregation.
We thank all who supported us with the fundraisers. Thank you for bringing smiles to people's lives with your sacrificial giving.
Tuition Centres
Positive parenting program(PPP)
On October 22nd and 23rd, PPP programs were held at Nachiyarpuram and Kurunjinagar.
This month's key focus was on the supportive role parents and teachers play in the education of children. As the saying goes, 'It takes a village to raise a child,' the role the immediate members of the family and the community play is essential to the child's success.
In the last few months, the involvement of parents in their children's academic progress has been emphasised. This has had a positive impact on the parent community. Though many parents are illiterate, they can now hold their children accountable for attending tutoring centres and checking their children's progress by contacting the teachers.
'Teachers and parents play a crucial role in a child's life. They shape how they are in tomorrow's society' -Mrs. Mariselvi (Parent)
Science is fun!
Starting this month, we are focussing on practical science experiments.
The children had fun and learned through the classic experiment in which a chemical reaction can create the appearance of a physical volcano. The other experiment was mixing borax and glue to make slime. It was fun and exposed them to a world of exciting chemistry.
Two centres participated this month. This experiment rotation will be extended to other centres in the coming months.

Reading your way through!
The mobile library is on the 'Reading Challenge -4' session, which will end in November.
We hope to bring a fresh collection of new books to enhance the children's reading experience in the coming year.
Tuition Teachers meet
All six teachers attended the meeting on October 30th, during which the children's achievements and progress were discussed. Plans for Christmas programs were also discussed.
Tata Proengage- Online English classes
Online English classes run by Tata volunteers are held every week. We can see the impact of these classes. Many of the children who attend these classes regularly have improved their English marks in the Quarterly examinations. We sincerely thank all six volunteers who sacrifice their time, effort, and resources.

Tailoring Centre
The tailoring center started in Kulasekaranallur is progressing well and according to plan. Twenty-five women are currently undergoing training. Their work demonstrates a great deal of enthusiasm and creativity.
Here are some eye-catching dress designs from our sewing centre women!
Nutrition powder training
On October 10th, training on producing quality nutrition powder was taught at Kulasekaranallur. The importance of health, hygiene and nutrition was emphasised, and how well we could provide nutrient-rich foods for children and the elderly at a low cost was discussed. Twenty-three women participated in the program.
Stories of change...
Mrs. Vijayalashmi lives in Nachiyarpuram village. Her husband is a bus driver, and his income is not sufficient to make ends meet. She has done very little schooling and supports the family with her tailoring business. She was determined that her two children should not endure the same fate as her, and so she enrolled them at the DAIA tutoring centre. She was happily surprised by her children's achievements.
She stood up in the PPP meeting and shared her contentment and joy with other parents.
"Here, my children are taught good education, good character and sports. Here, children are treated equally, irrespective of caste or religion. It makes me very happy. I plan to support my son in achieving his dream of becoming a policeman and my daughter a doctor."
Embracing Elders
On October 9th, 37 elders attended the camp at Zion Campus, Tuticorin. They were given groceries and nutrition powder, and their weight was monitored and recorded. The camp ended with a good meal.
