Jeya Gell
Dear friends,
Greetings. I am delighted to meet you all through this newsletter and share many works we have done so far.
Summer Computer Classes
Computer classes were held for 2 weeks, covering MS office and basic computer literacy. 14 high school and upper primary school children successfully completed this program. Mrs. Geetha, the teacher in charge guided the students to basic digital literacy. We have a demand for this program to be run again.
Tailoring Program
This summer we have opened DAIA’s office doors for a batch of young women to train tailoring in the campus. This program is planned to run for 3 months. Currently, 14 women are participants in the program. The aim of the program is to train women around the suburbs surrounding DAIA’s office at Tuticorin. We are fortunate to have a skilful teacher Mrs. Andal Gomathi overseeing the teaching.
Career guidance for Tuition Centre
17 high school children across the tuition centres participated in the career guidance and awareness program at DAIA office on 20th April. The possibility of different avenues after school were discussed. Mrs. Prema, Program Manager, DAIA conducted the program, imparting the much needed guidance, at the same time keeping them motivated and interested through games. Overall, they had an informative session with fun.
4 students who attended DAIA tuition center have completed 12th std. Two of them have already got an offered to study agriculture Engineering.
Rural Placement Project
Blue breeze Enterprises and DAIA together conducted a job opportunity camp at Jumbulingapuram. This is rare and excellent opportunity provided by Bluebreeze enterprise to give jobs to freshers in any discipline, especially in tailoring. Some of the women participants of RUPA program have shown interest to join. We would like to thank Mr. Balaji, Owner of Bluebreeze enterprise who opened this opportunity for the women who we train. We would work on making this project effective and useful to the community as we go forward.
Meet our youngest supporter….
Adithi is a grade 12 student at Indian Public school, Chennai. She has a heart to help. She needed to something about it. She came to know of DAIA’s work last year, she volunteered to create a flyer for the ‘SMILE’ project, which aims at providing soft toys to young children who are mentally challenged, differently abled, sick or in need.
This year she decided to take it a step further. She spent her spare time, resources to create beautiful paintings which she put it for sale . She raised Rs. 5000/- toward the purchase of toys this year. We are so proud of and inspired by you Adithi. We need many more young Indians who are willing to reach out. Thank you!

Dreams come true...
Mrs. Esakiammal, aged 59 years lives at Jumbulingapuram. She was running a tea shop at her village. She was able to barely make an income. She approached DAIA to assist her in purchase of grinders and other utensils so that she can start a tiffin shop. She started in a very small level. The business took off , now she owns a small shop with seating inside. She closes her shop midday after lunch and converts the front of her shop as a flower seller for the evening. She is an example of hard work and determination to succeed in life, eventually making a better situation economically for her family.
Medical Camp
Medical camp was held at Kovilpatti on 26th April. Dr. Mummorthy gave a general health check up for 47 HIV patients. They were provided with medicines and nutrtion pack. The camp finished with a good meal.
Embracing Elders
The camp for Elders were held at Zion nagar on 13th April. Forty two elders participated in it. They were given the care packages for the month. The camp finished with a good meal.
