Dear friends,


Greetings. I am delighted to meet you all through this newsletter and share many works we have done so far.

Tuition centre Picnic

On February 18th, children from 5 tuition Centers Madathur, Millerpuram, Rajapandi Nagar, Thambikai Meendan, Nachiyarpuram were taken to Panjalankurichi Veerabandian Kattabomman Fort. The children who saw the heroic historical paintings of Kattabomman and also learned how valiant and prosperous our ancestors were. Mr.Victor presented a beautiful puppet show, focussing on the moral, ‘Lying is harmful’, through a beautiful story. The message was, we can experience full happiness in our life when we live honestly. Entertainment programs such as quiz competition and games for children were also conducted. Prizes were awarded to the winning children. Children participated in all kinds of activities with great joy. This tourist event has a place in everyone's mind.

PPP (Positive Parenting Program)

On February 22nd, an awareness meeting was held for the parents of children in Vallinagapuram about the importance of education. Mrs. Prema gave an inspiring message to the parents. The Child Protection Policy requires us as parents to know all the details about where our children go, come and know who they are friends with. They were encouraged to meet the teacher once a month and ask about the children's improvement in their studies and also to spend time with children as much as they could.

Students studying at Vallinayagapuram tuition centre enjoyed doing science experiments using chemical materials to find out the reactions of volcanoes and made slime.

Tuition Centre- TATA Proengage

​We conduct tuition centres at 10 centres regularly. They are given a nutritious snack, and helped with their homework from Monday to Saturday. On Saturdays, online English classes are run by TATA Proengage volunteers in 4 centres.

Around 25 kids attend at each of these centres. We are privileged to have 5 volunteers join us this session.

They are Mrs.Varalakshmi, Mrs.Uma Balasubramanian, Mrs.S.Priyadharashini, Mrs. Anu Parvathi and Mrs.Margeret Williams. We are grateful to them for investing their time and talent in the needy sections of the community.

Tuition Teachers Meeting

On February 28th, a monthly meeting for tuition teachers was held at the D.A.I.A. office. Mr.Francis shared words of encouragement to the teachers. Mrs. Hilda John asked each teacher about last month's report. Each teacher shared their experiences. In particular, the students of the Tuition Centre went on a tour to Panjalankurichi this month and how much the children enjoyed it. The teachers said that students have studied better this month than last month and scored good marks in the monthly test. Spoken English class was conducted by Prof.P.G.Jesudason to enhance the teachers capacity. Then everyone was given the ingredients needed for the snacks provided to the children that month.

Village Development (RUPA Project)

Success Story

Mrs. Gangai Veilai (27 Years) lives in Jambulingapuram village. She is a daily labourer. She completed tailoring training in tailoring training conducted by DAIA. She applied for a sewing machine to increase her income. On October 10th, 2022, she was provided with a sewing machine by DAIA. Now she sews ready-made garments at home and supplies them to export companies. Apart from that, she teaches her husband to sew and they both sew together and increase their income. They said that now the income is increasing and they can send their child to a good school and save. They are thankful to sponsors who made this possible.

Empowerment Scheme

Mrs.Manjal Matha (32 years) lives in village S.Pudur, married with one child. Her husband is doing agriculture. She studied tailoring at the tailoring school run by DAIA. She requested for a sewing machine to stitch readymade clothes and increase her income through sewing. We provided her a sewing machine.

Mrs.Amirtha Gomathi (36 years) lives in village S.Pudur, married with two children. Her husband is doing agriculture. She studied tailoring at the tailoring school run by DAIA. She requested for a sewing machine to stitch ready-made clothes and increase her income through sewing. She is looking forward to a better economic status in the near future. We provided her a sewing machine.

Mrs. Poolammal (72 years) has lost her husband and lives alone in Veerapandiapuram village. She has two children, both of whom are married and she lives alone. She is physically handicapped. She requested to provide him with goats. She is determined to improve her economic status. We provided two goats.

Mrs.Tamilthai (67 years) lives in S.Pudur. Her husband passed away many years ago. She is a daily labourer. She also requested for goat to improve her livelihood and we provided her two goats.

Mrs. Backiyammal (72 years) lives alone with her husband in Mela Veerabandiyapuram village. They could not go to work. Their home environment is suitable for poultry farming. She is interested in poultry farming and wants to increase her income. We provided with 5 chickens.

Vocational Training

2 teenagers have joined driving school in Puthiamputhur who are unable to continue their studies and were encouraged towards self-employment.

Tailoring Centre

The tailoring centers started in Jumbulingapuram and S.Pudur is progressing well. 6 women are studying in Jumbulingapuram and 16 women are studying in S.Pudur. The women are undergoing tailoring classes are participating with much interest and enthusiasm.

Adult Literacy

Adult literacy program was held at Jumbulingapuram, Pudupatcheri and S.Pudur villages. 40 people participated and were asked questions related to general knowledge. They participated enthusiastically.

Embracing Elders

On Feb 8th 44 elders attended the camp at Zion Campus, Tuticorin. Mrs.Eben Jason delivered an inspiring message. In this meeting, the elders who were present saw the play performed by Mrs. Eben Jason They were given groceries and nutrition powder. Their weight was monitored and recorded. The camp ended with a good meal.

On Feb 4th, 38 patients attended the medical camp held at Zion Campus, Tuticorin. Mrs.Dorothy Manimuthu delivered uplifting message. Dr.Mummoorthy examined the patients. Medicines, tonics, and nutrition powder were distributed. The camp ended with a simple nutritious meal. 

Kovilpatti

On Feb 17th, 54 patients attended the medical camp at St. Paul’s Campus, Kovilpatti. Mrs.Prema delivered encouraging message. Dr.Mummoorthy examined the patients. medicines, tonics, and nutrition powder were distributed. Their weight was monitored and recorded. The camp ended with a good meal.
