Dear friends,
Greetings. I am delighted to meet you all through this newsletter and share many works we have done so far.
Rural Upliftment Programs and Awareness (RUPA PROJECT)
As the RUPA projects are nearing the finish line in the three villages, a thanks giving ceremony was held at Jumbulingapram on November 23rd.
A brief summary of the work done in Jumbulingapuram in the last two and half years is given below. 110 Of beneficiaries have started small business and most of them running it profitably. 131 women have been trained in tailoring,12 boys have been trained in driving. Among these 90% of them are in reasonable income jobs. Adult literacy and Financial literacy programs have played a key role in the successful delivery of the project.
Awareness programs on health, hygiene and sanitation, has impacted the community in a great way and the village is much cleaner and they have running water in all the villages. So far, we run 8 tuition centrein the outskirts of Tuticorin, attended 197 children from under previleged family background. We bring quality education support to them.
Across the projects, total of 699 beneficiaries have benefitted so far, which includes women and people with disability.
Village development project thanks giving Ceremony
On November 23rd, a thanksgiving ceremony was held at Jambulingapuram Panchayat. The meeting was attended by the village leaders, the beneficiaries and staff from DAIA.

Leaders’ views on the work of the Village Development Program
DAIA has done some good work that the government could not do.
DAIA has done many improvement projects in our panchayat for the last three years and encouraged the people by giving many trainings.
Economic assistance to the poor, driving training to the youth, training to the farmers were provided and the livelihood of all was raised.
The people of Jambulingapuram have benefited from DAIA through economic assistance, sewing machines, awareness meetings for the economically backward population.
Primary school students in Jambulingapuram panchayat were given awareness on hygiene and through this the children learned good habits.
Empowerment
Ms. K. Poomari (age 25) receiving her sewing machine. Her father is working as a laborer. Unable to continue her studies due to family circumstances, she studied tailoring at a DAIArun tailoring training course. She said she would increase his income by sewing ready-made clothes. She expects the economic situation to improve in the future.
Mrs. Shantha Jeeva(29 years) receiving her sewing machine. Her husband is working as a laborer. Her income is not enough to support her family. She learned tailoring at a tailoring training school run by DAIA. She hopes for a better economic situation in the future.
Mrs. Sudalai kani (28 years old) receiving her sewing machine. She is married with two children and her husband is a labourer. Lives in a joint family with elderly uncle and aunt. She does not have enough income. She completed the tailoring course at the tailoring school run by DAIA.If I have a sewing machine, I can improve my financial status.
Mrs. S. Vijayalakshmi (19 years) receiving her sewing machine. Her father is disabled and cannot do any work. She has two brothers. Due to insufficient income in the family, she could not continue her studies. She studied tailoring. She was provided with one and she believes going forward will bring a better life. She believes that she can earn as much as she needs.

Tailoring centre
On November 23rd, 15 people who completed tailoring training were awarded certificates by DAIA tailoring centre at Pudupacherri village.
Tuition Centre
8 centres are currently run across the outskirts of Tuticorin. They were attended by 197 children this month.
Children’s day celebration
On 14th November Children's Day was celebrated in all our tuition centres on the occasion of Children's Day. All the children dressed up as independence leaders and acted out dialogues. Grace, a student studying at Alagumuthu Nagar tuition Centre, rocked the place by speaking in the guise of Kannagi. Speech competition, Essay competition, drawing competition, fancy dress competition, Dance competition and Singing competition were all conducted. The winners were felicitated with prizes.
Mobile Library
A book reading program has been implemented in our tuition centre so that the students can make effective use of their vacations. A prize program has been announced to encourage children who read more books this holiday. All these programs are only for the future of our children to develop into a healthy generation.
Tuition teachers meet
On November 30, the monthly meeting for Tuition Practitioners was held at our DAIA office. Mrs.Hilda John Tuition teachers emphasised the safety of children and she also discussed about the mobile library program and encouraged the teachers to help their children spend their holidays effectively. Regarding the mobile library project, Mrs. Flora shared with the teachers about the ‘Reading Challenge - I ’ running through the December school holidays and finishing in January.
Medical Camp
Medical Camp for HIV/AIDS patients at Kovilpatti 42 patients were given medical checkup, medicines, nutrition powder and a good meal on Nov 17th.
Embracing Elders
Our monthly ‘Embracing Elders’ Program for 44 elders held on Nov 15th.
All of them are provided with a grocery pack a good meal.
Personality Development Training Program
On November 21st, Mr.John Ranjith Kumar addressed the DAIA staff on Personality Development at the DAIA office in Kirubai Nagar. If we plan and work properly in the workplace, success is sure. He said that if we take proper care of all the states like physical, emotional and thinking then we can live a better human being.


Christmas Appeal
Christmas - The greatest love story
As we approach Christmas, we are reminded of the reason of the season. It is a time of joy sharing the amazing love story of God with mankind. We often share this love by giving gifts to our near and loved ones.
Many of our beneficiaries whom we serve, don’t have an opportunity to give or receive a gift this Christmas. We invite you to reach out to someone, because ‘changes occur only when someone cares an awful lot!’
Gifts can be donated cash or in kind.
