Greetings. I am delighted to meet you all through this newsletter and share many works we have done so far.

Medical Camp

Tuticorin

On Aug 6th, 35 patients attended the medical camp held at Zion Church, Tuticorin. Mrs.Eben Jason delivered uplifting message. Dr.Mummoorthy examined the patients. Medicines, tonics, and nutrition powder were distributed. The camp ended with a simple nutritious meal

Kovilpatti

On August 20th, 60 patients attended the medical camp at St. Paul’s Church, Kovilpatti. Mrs.Prema delivered encouraging message. Mrs. Hilda John met with the patients, encouraged them and listened to their feedbacks. Dr.Mummoorthy examined the patients. medicines, tonics, and nutrition powder were distributed. Their weight was monitored and recorded. The camp ended with a good meal.

Embracing Elders

On August 10th 43 elders attended the camp at Zion Church, Tuticorin. Mrs.Prema delivered encouraging message. This month the medical camp was conducted for the welfare of the elders. Dr. Mummoorthy examined the people. They were distributed medicines, tonics, groceries and nutrition powder. The camp ended with a good meal.

Tuition centre- TATA Proengage

We conduct tuition centres at 10 centres regularly. 7 new tuition centres were started this month making the number of tuition centres as 10.

 

They are given a nutritious snack, and helped with their homework from Monday to Saturday. On Saturdays, online English classes are run by TATA Proengage volunteers in 4 centres.

 

Around 25 kids attend at each of these centres. To run the tuition centre effectively, TATA Pro-engage along with DAIA together conduct online training classes for the children.

Tuition centre Visit

DAIA Director Mrs.Hilda John and Mrs.Jeya Gell visited all the tuition centres run by DAIA this month. She enjoyed telling stories, songs and playing mini games with the students. In particular, Mrs.Hilda John was amazed to see the oratory skills of our student Mr.M.Surya Prakash, studying at Nachiyarpuram tuition centre.

Tuition teachers meeting

On August 30th monthly meeting for tuition teachers was held at DAIA office. Mrs. Hilda John advised the teaches to interact more with the children and encourage them. Mrs. Prema spoke about the Child Protection Policy. Mrs.Jeyam Esther took Maths subject and Miss.Dorice took Science subject. All the tuition centres were then given nutritious food items for the children’s snacks for that month.

Village Development (RUPA Project)

Empowerment scheme

Miss. Ramkumari (21 years) lives in Jumbulingapuram village under the care of her father. Studied tailoring at a tailoring training school run by our DAIA. She requested for a sewing machine to stitch ready-made clothes and increase her income through sewing. We provided her a sewing machine.

Miss Rubavathy (25 years) lives in Jumbulingapuram village under the care of her father. Her mother passed away. She Studied tailoring at a tailoring training school run by DAIA. She too requested for a sewing machine to stitch ready-made clothes and increase her income through sewing. We provided her a sewing machine.

Mr. Maharaja (24 years) lives in S.Pudur village under the care of his mother. Currently undergoing treatment in the government hospital for his mental health. He has no father. His mother is engaged in farming, which does not earn her enough income. He requested for goat to improve his livelihood and we provided him two goats.

Mrs.Muthulakshmi (36 years) lives in S.Pudur village with two children. Her husband is working as a coolie. She said that it would be helpful if we buy her chicken so as to increase her income. She was provided with 5 chickens.

Mrs.Petchiammal (36 years) lives in S.Pudur . Her husband passed away many years ago. She is a daily labourer. She also requested for goat to improve her livelihood and we provided her two goats.

Mrs. Selvapushpam (23 years) is living with her son in Pudupatcheri village. Her husband works as a labourer and his mother has petti shop. She said that it would be help me if we buy her a grinder to sell flour to increase her monthly income. We provided her with a grinder.

International Needs Australia - Interview

On August 2nd , Mrs.Ramalakshmi, Mr.Maharaja, Mrs.Sundari, Mrs.Kavitha and Mr.Muthukrishnan who have benefited from the economic program were interviewed by INA staff through video and asked about their current economic progress and RUPA activity progress and how it has helped their lives.

Village Visit

This month DAIA. Mrs.Hilda John visited all the villages where RUPA activity is taking place. Specially interviewed the beneficiaries of the economic development programme. 

Tailoring Centre

The tailoring centers started in Jumbulingapuram and S.Pudur is progressing well. 11 women are studying in Jumbulingapuram and 9 women are studying in S.Pudur. The women are undergoing tailoring classes are participating with much interest and enthusiasm. 

Tailoring certificate ceremony

On August 25th a ceremony was held at Jumbulingapuram to give certificates to the 3rd batch students who completed their tailoring course. Mr.Francis delivered the welcome address. Mrs.Hilda John, enquired about how DAIA's work has helped the development of people. The Panchayat Clerk said how useful the activities of DAIA are to the villagers. Mrs. Prema gave the vote of thanks.

Adult Literacy

On August 18, Adult Literacy Program was held at S.Pudur. 15 people participated in it. All participants were taught lessons through a laptop. They have started a new curriculum by TATA Adult literacy program. They have learned vowels.

New Building Inauguration

​DAIA office opened a newly extended building in the DAIA campus on 19.08.2022. The office was inaugurated by DAIA President, Dr. Joe Prabhakaran.

Board Meeting

On August 22nd, the 22nd Annual general meeting was held at DAIA office. The activities of DAIA, budget and audit reports were presented.
